Jakarta, September 30, 2024 – SEAMEO RECFON launched a report for one of its flagship programs, the SEA ECCNE Mapping Report, on Monday (September 30). The launching was held online in conjunction with The Third Workshop of the SEA-ECDP Working Group. This year’s workshop of the SEA-ECDP Working Group was in collaboration and co-hosted by SEAMEO CECCEP.

The event was opened with a welcoming remark from the Director of SEAMEO RECFON, Dr. Herqutanto, M.P.H., M.A.R.S, who expressed gratitude for the ongoing SEA ECCNE initiative. “I extend my deepest gratitude to each of you for your continued commitment to advancing Early Childhood Care, Nutrition, and Education development across Southeast Asia.

Dr. Herqutanto mentioned that the SEA ECCNE program has been implemented for over five years, having been initiated in 2017. The program has continued for years and has evolved over time.

He also added that this workshop is particularly special as it focuses on disseminating the concept of Universal Child Care by exploring strategies to ensure equitable access to high-quality early childhood services for all children in Southeast Asia, along with the launch of the SEA ECCNE Mapping Report.

After the opening remarks, the event began with a plenary session. This session included a presentation on the concept of Universal Child Care, delivered by Prof. Vina Adriany, M.Ed, Ph.D., from SEAMEO CECCEP.

The purpose of this activity was to disseminate the concept of Universal Child Care by exploring strategies to ensure equal access to early childhood services.

Prof. Vina stated, “Children who are enrolling in early childhood education will tend to have better outcomes in education.” 

She emphasized the significant benefits and impacts of providing education to young children, as they absorb and hold onto this knowledge during their growth. Ultimately, the effects of early childhood education are profound, influencing habits or lifestyles, personal health, the health of those around them, and even the financial situation.

The event continued with the next activity, which was the launch of the SEA ECCNE Mapping Report. This launch was marked by the broadcast of a video introducing the SEA ECCNE Mapping Report, which contained important information regarding the mapping report.

The SEA ECCNE Mapping Report is the culmination of dedicated efforts by the Southeast Asian Ministers of Education Organization Regional Centre for Food and Nutrition, SEAMEO RECFON, aimed at nurturing children as the future of the region.

This mapping report provides a comprehensive overview of the current state of care, nutrition, and early childhood education in Southeast Asia. It includes detailed summaries by country, highlighting demographic and macroeconomic contexts, policy landscapes, and programmatic efforts. Additionally, it features regional thematic analyses related to challenges, lessons learned, and future directions.

The report underscores the need for better data availability and enhanced collaboration among Southeast Asian countries to achieve holistic early childhood development. It serves as a crucial resource for policymakers, educators, and stakeholders committed to nurturing the potential of every child in the region.
